Prong is the most common and traditional type of diamond setting. The prong setting features small metal arms that hold the diamond in place and lift it high above of the band. Prongs allow the maximum amount of diamond surface to be visible and also allow the light to enter and pass through the diamond which means maximum brilliance and sparkle.
Bead setting refers to a type of setting in which diamonds are placed on the top of tiny holes that are drilled into the surface of the metal. Once the diamond is positioned on the hole, the beads of metal are raised to hold it in place.
A channel setting refers to small diamonds embedded into a grooved channel of the shank. The smaller stones on the band are set into the shank and on a track between two walls of metal which is a secure way to set small diamonds on the ring's band. The row of diamonds on the shank gives a sparkling look to the metal of the ring.
Pave setting is a type of setting in which the shank of the ring is paved with smaller diamonds. The smaller diamonds are held by prongs or beads and nestled closely together which gives the ring a solid appearance and extra sparkle.
A fishtail setting is an elegant setting in which diamonds are set directly into the metal and held in some delicate fishtail-shaped cut of the metal. The fishtail setting is a great choice to show off melee really well.
The gypsy setting is also known as the flush mount setting in which diamonds appear to be flush into metal. In this setting, diamonds seem to be sunken into the metal, and similar to the bezel setting, the crown or top of the diamond is the only exposed area.
