Diamond Shapes

Discover Jax Jewelers House's Story

Round Shape

A shape that is mathematically calculated and designed to offer maximum sparkle.  The round brilliant-cut diamond is the most popular diamond shape by far.  However, due to its popularity, it is also scarce which drives up the price.

Oval Shape

The oval shape diamond has become increasingly popular in recent years  Favored for its ability to elongate the hands and have a slimming effect on fingers, it exhibits similar brilliance to the round brilliant shape.  Oval diamonds come in a variety of width-to-length ratios, look for an oval diamond with the ratio that best appeals to you.

Marquise Shape

Similar to the oval shape, the marquise shape shares its ability in creating an elongated and slimming effect on the finger.  The shape and proportions of the marquise shape also often make the diamond look bigger than its carat weight.

Pear Shape

Also referred to as the tear-drop shape diamond, it shares a similar elongating and slimming effect as the oval shape diamond.

Cushion Cut

The cushion shape has been popular for more than a century.  Its large facets maximize brilliance but also make inclusions comparably more noticeable.  Cushion shapes come in either square or rectangle, the width-to-length ratio will play a role in determining its overall shape.

Emerald Cut

The rectangular facet shapes and cuts of the emerald shape diamond create a unique optical appearance.  Its unique facets also make inclusions more noticeable.  When choosing an emerald shape with a lower clarity grade, be sure to take a closer look at where those inclusions are located in the diamond.

Asscher Cut

Similar to an emerald shape, the Asscher shape is the emerald shape's square counterpart.  This also means that inclusions may be more noticeable due to their faceting.

Radiant Cut

A signature of the radiant-shaped diamond is its trimmed corners.  Its appearance in rectangularity is dependent on its width-to-length ratio.  Look for a proportion that best appeals to you.

Princess Cut

Exhibiting beautiful and unique brilliance, the princess shape can be either square or rectangular.  Look for a width-to-length ratio that best appeals to you.  Additionally, lower color grade diamonds in the princess shape may display more color various around their corners.
